Shin Yon Kim is a Lecturer in Asian Studies. She received her PhD in Social Science and an MA in Political Science from the Maxwell School of Syracuse University. She also earned an MA in International Economics and Korea Studies from the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Kim teaches a variety of courses in Asian Studies, including the politics, society, and history of East Asia. Her research interests include comparative foreign policy with a regional focus on East Asia, political leadership, and inter-Korean relations, including unification policy.
Dr. Kim’s study “Presidential Personality and Foreign Policy Decision-Making: Sunshine Policy under Kim Dae-jung” was published in Pacific Affairs (2023). She recently shared her research at the American Political Science Association (APSA) conference in 2024 and the Midwest Political Science Association (MPSA) conference in 2023.
