Thank you so much to everyone who attended and contributed to the Global Asias Initiative Opening Workshop & Reception on April 5 and to all of our wonderful, engaging speakers. We are even more excited now about all of the possibilities of the work!
At the Opening Workshop, we brought together faculty, staff, students, and campus partners interested in supporting Asians and Asian Americans at UMBC to help shape the study of Asia and Asian America at our university. The workshop explored the concept of Global Asias with a presentation by Dr. Theodore Gonzalves, “What makes an object APA vs Global vs Asian?”, a panel conversation with faculty, and an interactive activity to generate ideas from participants about future curriculum, programming & events.
The Global Asias Initiative is made possible by a grant from the Mellon Foundation.
Keep in touch with the initiative’s upcoming programming & events here, on Facebook, Instagram on the Global Asias myUMBC group.
