The course will look into the allied religions of Hinduism and Buddhism from the standpoints of history, doctrines, sects, practices and personalities in a comparative manner. Among the things it will examine are the differences in the notions of karma and rebirth, dharma, monasticism, scriptures, religious ceremonies, holy places, etc. In the case of Buddhism, it will also look at how the religion spread through Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia in succession.
