Asian Studies Award Winners 2021-22

Asian Studies is delighted to announce the winners of our 2021-22 student awards! Please join us in celebrating these students and their wonderful achievements. We asked our award winners to share some thoughts about their time at UMBC and their plans moving forward; here is what they had to say!

Camille B.

Outstanding Service Award

At UMBC I was a Humanities Scholar and majored in Cultural Anthropology and Asian Studies with a minor in Korean language and culture. I was also an officer in the Asian Studies Council of Majors for three years. I also had the opportunity to briefly study abroad in Bhutan during my junior year. During my senior year I received an URCAD award and presented my honors thesis on how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the wellbeing of UMBC students. Since graduating from UMBC, I have been accepted into the CIEE program to teach English in South Korea and am working to receive my TEFL certification before going abroad.

Jade started her college journey at a local community college, where she decided to transfer to UMBC to complete her bachelor’s degree. Jade has always had a passion for languages, learning Spanish earlier in her life, which she continued in college, as well as Japanese throughout her undergraduate career. Jade dove right into the community culture, becoming a part of the Honors College Council as a transfer representative early on, as well as participating in various volunteer works servicing the local community.  Jade’s tireless enthusiasm and positive outlook, coupled with her perseverance, means that she puts in 100% to reach her goal. Jade plans to continue her education through a Masters in Speech Language Pathology. One thing is for sure, Jade’s passion for learning and language will drive her to even greater heights.
